These are the steps that they follow:
1. Gather all of the local green waste and transfer it to the compost center in Novato.
2. They then go through the waste to find any potential contaminants (plastic and other non-compostable items)
3. Then the waste is ground up and used to build composting piles. Where it is aerated for 3-4 weeks at 131 degrees Fahrenheit.
4. It cures for 3-4 months and after it will be tested for any contaminants such as pathogens.
5. Then it is screened where all of the pure compost will be packaged and sold to local buyers.

Households can contribute to the reducing planet's waste problem but purchasing compostable single use items, reusable household items to reduce their single use consumption and effectively separate their trash in order to prevent recyclables to be recycled instead of being thrown into landfills. It is also a possibility to compost at home in order to provide your home with fresh soil from your food scraps. Do your best to avoid purchasing items wrapped in non-recyclable packaging and keep in mind if it is really necessary to use that single use item or if there is something reusable you can use instead in order to reduce waste.
